Veteran Celebration set for Nov. 7 to honor all who served
Since November of 1919, we have honored all U.S. military veterans who have served and those killed during peace time and in war. Freedom lives because of their service. In addition to Veterans Day, The Veterans of Lincoln County is presenting the Veteran Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 7 on the downtown square. All branches — Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard — will be represented and honored for their service.

Imagine a Day without Water
Each day we brush, flush, wash our hands and dishes, brew our morning cup of Joe, do laundry and ensure we stay hydrated. All require water. Every time we turn on the faucet we assume we will have water. Until we don’t. When a water leak occurs — whether at home or in the neighborhood — we immediately call the public water utility or a plumber. We don’t want to be without water one minute longer than is necessary. Admittedly, the inconvenience can be irritating.
Election officials say social media post warning about disqualified ballots is a hoax
The adage “don’t believe everything you see on social media” rang true last week. A misleading social media post falsely claiming a ballot will not be counted if poll workers mark on it led state election officials to debunk this claim.
Burn permits are required as wildfire season begins
As of Oct. 15, burn permits are required for anyone burning leaves, natural brush or debris. The Tennessee Department of Forestry (TDF) encourages residents to be safe and vigilant as wildfire season begins.
TPA to hold gubernatorial forum at MTSU
The Tennessee Press Association will hold a gubernatorial forum on Oct. 27 at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, according to TPA President Dave Gould.
