FMS names KJ Johnson head boys’ basketball coach

KJ Johnson has been named Fayetteville Middle School boys’ basketball new head coach bringing an impressive playing résumé and a rising coaching background to the program.
A standout at Marshall County High School in Lewisburg, Johnson built one of the most decorated careers in Tennessee high school basketball history. He was a twotime Mr. Basketball winner, a twotime All-State selection, and District Tournament MVP player. Johnson finished as the school’s all-time leading scorer with 2,700 career points. He also set a single-game scoring record with 57 points and averaged 34.8 points per game as a senior. He was named to the All-Decade Team in Tennessee.
Johnson continued his success at the collegiate level, competing in NCAA Division I basketball at both Lipscomb University and University of North Alabama. During his college career, he scored 1,649 total points, earned ASUN All-Freshman honors, and ranked among the conference’s all-time leaders in multiple offensive categories.
Following college, Johnson took his game overseas, playing professionally for the Milton Keynes Breakers in the United Kingdom. In his rookie season, he was named team MVP, earned Eurobasket NBL1 First Team honors, and averaged 18 points and 6 assists per game. He ranked in the top 10 in scoring, assists, and field goal percentage.
Most recently, Johnson began his coaching career as an assistant at Fayetteville High School during the 2025–2026 season, helping guide the Tigers to the region semifi nals.
“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to lead this team as head coach,” Johnson said of being named head coach at FMS. “My focus is to create an environment where our players are inspired to reach their full potential, both on and off the court. I am fully dedicated to investing in their growth as athletes, as teammates, and as young men. I’m excited to get started.”
