Mary Lewter Hobbs Obituary

Mary Ann Lewter Hobbs, 78, of Fayetteville, Tennessee, passed this life on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Lynchburg Funeral Home in Lynchburg, Tennessee with Pastor Rick Clouse officiating. Burial followed at Kirkland Cemetery in Fayetteville.

A native of Lincoln County, Tennessee, she is the daughter of the late N.J. “Pint” Renfro and Ruby West Renfro McPhearson. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by grandparents, Nolen and Mary Shelton Renfro, Allen, and Annie B. West; brothers, Jimmy Renfro and Roger Renfro; sister, Janie Patrick; grandson, Lane Bennett Lewter.

Mary Ann was a joy to be around and loved her family. She enjoyed spending time with them. She worked for many years at Genesco and was of the Baptist faith. She was married to Jerry Lewter for 49 years and he passed away in 2003. She then later married Carl Hobbs and they were married for 20 years, and he passed away in January of 2024.

Survivors include her children, Terry (Mike Hopwood) Lewter of Fayetteville, Kim (Gemini Goolsby) of Fayetteville, Scotty (Katrinna) Lewter of Hartford City, Indiana and Tammy (Scotty) Williamson of Fayetteville. Mary Ann is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and has 2 great- great grandchildren on the way. 

Lynchburg Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
