25 years ago April 18, 2001 E-911 Dedication –
Community leaders, city and county officials, members of the Pruitt family, and friends gather for the dedication of the new E911 Communications Center on Moyers Drive. The new tornado-protected fortress was dedicated to the memory of Kenneth Pruitt, a dispatcher from July 1968 to July 1997, who was said to have love and compassion for his fellow man, office, and family, and performed his job beyond all expectations.
Jean joins LCB Home Firm – Debra D. Jean has joined LCB Home Loans Inc. as a loan originator. Her primary territory will include the areas surrounding Winchester, Tullahoma, Manchester, and McMinnville, with her main office located at 410 Dinah Shore Boulevard in Winchester.
Simmental Scholarship Winners – Ronnie Osteen, State Simmental Association president, congratulates Kandi Dunnivan and Erin Williams as winners of the Tennessee Association Simmental Scholarship. Both students will be attending Tennessee Tech University this fall.
Girls State Delegates
– Several Lincoln County High School students will head to Girls ‘ State at Middle Tennessee State University in May. Girls State delegates and alternates are Susan Mitchell, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club; Jennifer Wilcox, Alternate, Kiwanis Club; Jessica Gunn, Lions Club; Elizabeth Chapman, alternate, Lions Club; Lindsay Guthrie, alternate, Lions Club; Bridget Dugger, American Legion Auxiliary; and Clair Cowle, alternate, American Legion Auxiliary. Their representatives are Elizabeth Boaz, chairman of American Legion Auxiliary, and Marie McConnell, president of American Legion Post 42.
50 years ago April 13, 1976 Youngest rider – Robert Young, five-year-old son of Dr. and Mrs. William Young of Fayetteville, was the youngest rider in Saturday’s Cystic Fibrosis bike a thon. The youngster stops at a checkpoint manned by Fredna Womack and Caroly Buchanan on his way to pedaling 12 miles.
Wins bike-a-thon-
Mike McGeehee, a 14-yearold student at Lincoln Central High School, won the Cystic Fibrosis bike-a-thon held in Fayetteville Saturday. He was awarded a bicycle by the Fayetteville Kiwanis Club after pedaling 59 miles.
Two Elks added to state posts- Two members of Fayetteville Elks Losge 1782 have been elected to state office, and the lodge placed in team and individual ritual competition at a recent state convention. Clay Jared has been elected to serve a three-year term on the state Elks Board of Directors. David Arnold was elected to serve as chairman of the state branch of the National Elks foundation.
C.A. Gearish dies, founded Camp – C.A. (Jimmy) Gearish, who with his wife gave up promising careers in the entertainment world to settle in Fayetteville as operator of a camp for boys and girls, died in Baptist Hospital in Knoxville Saturday morning. He was 84 years old. Mr. Gearish suffered an apparent heart attack in East Tennessee on Thursday. He became ill near Sevierville as he and his wife, Mrs. Havelon Gearish, were en route to Gatlinburg for the district convention of Rotary. A Rotarian for 40 years, Mr. Gearish served as district governor of Rotary District No. 678 during 1957-58. He was president of the Fayetteville Rotary Club in 1946-47, and for many years was song leader for the Fayetteville club.
