Firecracker Crunch set for July 4

Staff reports

Get ready for the next 50 years of the Firecracker Chase – now rebranded for the 51st anniversary! The Firecracker Crunch will start with a bang on Saturday, July 4! The Quatina M. Wolaver Foundation of Hope asks participants to meet at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds at 7 a.m. and run or walk the horse racing track, enjoy the patriotic red, white and blue theme, and support the foundation.

This year’s event will be timed manually, but organizers hope to have enough runners registered for this event to bring back an official timer for next year’s Firecracker Chase. There will only be one aid station, which participants will pass twice during the race. Everyone must bring their own water bottle, since the event will be cupless; however, organizers will provide water on site and LMNT (electrolyte drink mixes) packets at the aid station. Crunchy, patriotic treats will also be available at the end. All runners will receive a participant medal.

Awards will be given to the top three in each male and female category: zero to 17 and 18 and up. Participants will need to enter the fairgrounds at the Hedgemont Avenue gate. Register for the race by going to the website: RUNSIGNUP.COM. Tickets are $22.20 and registration ends July 3 at noon.

The Quatina M. Wolaver Foundation of Hope was established in 2018 to spread ovarian cancer awareness and to support those diagnosed in our local community.
