JUNIOR ANGUS SHOW
Three local youth will exhibit Angus cattle at the Eastern Regional Angus Show in Verona, Mississippi, this weekend, reports Richard L. Spader, executive vice president of the American Angus Association. Damon Cunningham and Desiree Cunningham, both of Ardmore, and Mollee Patrick of Fayetteville will participate in the show.
BELLSOUTH AWARD
– Beverly Thornton, C.L.E.A.N. president, and Mona Malone, C.L.E.A.N. board member, present Brian Carter, Fayetteville Housing Authority program leader, a check to be used for the Fayetteville Housing youth for their collection of phone books for recycling during the recent Great American Cleanup.
RESEARCH SCHOLAR Shawn Brooks, a junior majoring in psychology, has been named a Presidential Research Scholar at Austin Peay State University. He is the son of Ronald and Patricia Brooks of Fayetteville and the husband of Misty Brooks. On hand are Dr. Maureen McCarthy, associate professor of psychology, and Dr. Sherry Hope, APSU president. In the Presidential Research Scholars Program, the student works with an APSU faculty member who acts as mentor and faculty advisor on the project.
HOLSTON ENLISTS
– Troy R. Holston of Fayetteville recently enlisted in the Tennessee Army National Guard, Det 1, BTRY C, 1-115th FA, in Fayetteville. According to his recruiter, SFC Steve Parks, Holston enlisted as a 13 B, cannon crewmember, and will receive an $8,000 enlistment bonus and the FI Bill plus kicker for a total of $462 per month while he is in school full time.

DEFENDS TITLE
– Mrs. Shirley Bergeron of Huntsville successfully defended her title in the Fayetteville Golf and Country Club ladies’ golf tournament. Mrs. Bergeron topped the championship flight with a score of 80. Winners in the championship and first flight are Mrs. Bergeron, Mrs. Reba Henson of Winchester; second, Mrs. Dean Askins, third; Mrs. Marijo Pack of Winchester, first in the second flight, and Mrs. Mary Cohn and Mrs. Betty Atkinsons, second and third, respectively.
10 OPERATIONS TERMED ‘CENTURY FARMS’
– Preliminary results of the “Family Land Heritage – Century Farm” program show that 10 Lincoln County farms have been cultivated by the same family for 100 years or more. The 10 Lincoln County farms, their owners and their founding dates are, Mrs. Marjorie Smith Bryant, 1825; Herbert D. Hill, 1827; Mrs. Lloyd Hall Hill, 1837; Mr. and Mrs. Edmund R. Briley, 1856; Mr. and Mrs. John Beall Conger Sr., 1818; Mr. William Franklin Philpot Jr., 1866; and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Douglas, Mr. and Mrs. Howard M. Lee, Mrs. William D. Posey; and Mr. and Mrs. Glen R. Moore, 1830.
BOWLING RESULTS
– Coca- Cola moved to the top of Tuesday Night Ladies Bowling League standings by blanking Quiet Oaks Motel, 4-0. In action at Lincoln Lanes, Sue Smith bowled a 195 high game and 449 series to lead the winners, while Cindy Bailey rolled 167-450 for Quiet Oaks. In other action, 7-11 Market blanked Bob Harrison Ford 4-0 with Francis Phelps rolling a 164-485. Pat Clements led the losers with a 180-488. Wilma Martin rolled 193484 to lead Trulson Aircraft past Lincoln Lanes by 3-1. Nora Welch bowled 184-443 for Lincoln Lanes. Lincoln County Bank shut out Glenwood Motel 4-0 behind an 187-528 performance by Romine Berryhill. Hilda Sharpe led the losers with 143406.
