Qualifying deadline for November election is noon on Aug. 20
The qualifying deadline to file as a candidate for the Nov. 3, 2026, state general, City of Fayetteville, the Town of Ardmore and Fayetteville School Board election is noon on Aug. 20. Candidates must submit their paperwork by this time to appear on the ballot.

Woman charged following Park City apartment fire
ALincoln County woman faces multiple charges following a fire that engulfed her apartment with the potential of endangering adjoining apartments in Park City early Thursday morning.

Fire cleanup on square begins
Six months after a five-alarm fire destroyed four buildings on the south side of Fayetteville’s historic downtown square, cleanup is planned to begin on Tuesday, Aug. 18. Containing the fire and preventing smoldering resulted in debris from the four buildings becoming one big pile measuring 16-feet high in places and containing asbestos.

County records 33.7% voter turnout in election
With a 33.7% voter turnout, Lincoln County elected Walt Patrick as mayor and reelected Tull Malone as sheriff for another four years. Of the 24 county commissioners serving the eight districts, voters elected 14 new representatives, while returning 10 incumbents. Election results are preliminary until the numbers are certified by the election commission.

Cara Sain named interim RCA president
Following several years of dedicated service as Riverside Christian Academy (RCA) President Lois Mays stepped down at the end of the 2025-2026 school year to move on to her next mission. RCA’s board of directors chose Cara Sain to serve as interim president for the 20262027 school year. During her 25 years at RCA, Sain has served as head of the school, second grade teacher, resource teacher, elementary principal and cheerleading coach. “I will definitely be in this position for the full year,” said Sain, adding this is her third time as head of the school.

Commissioner Cunningham gives update on county’s industrial parks developments
District 6 County Commissioner and chairman of the joint Fayetteville- Lincoln County Industrial Oversight Committee Doug Cunningham presented his last quarterly Industrial Development Board (IBD) report during the July 21 County Commission meeting. He gave updates on Runway Centre, Bullington Industrial Park, Fayetteville-Lincoln County Industrial Park and Horizon Park.
HH Health System President Seals gives semiannual report
Mary Beth Seals, president, Huntsville Hospital Lincoln Health, presented her semiannual report to the Fayetteville Board of Mayor and Alderman and the Lincoln County Commission during their July respectively monthly meetings. “We’re going into year four with our affiliation with Huntsville Hospital,” she said. You hear me say, ‘This is going to be the best year ever’ every year, but there’s a lot of good things coming this year.”
Fraudulent check written on elderly couple’s account
An attempt was recently made to withdraw funds from an elderly couple’s bank account. The wife discovered a fraudulent check had been written for thousands of dollars against their bank account, according to the Fayetteville Police Department.
