Bill Shelton seeks commissioner seat in the 8th District

Bill Shelton is seeking to be elected as a commissioner representing the 8th District.

Shelton said he is a 1982 graduate of Lincoln County High School and a lifelong resident of the Lincoln community which is in the 8th District.

“I have been married to my wife, Robin Shelton, for 33 years and we have three adult children and two grandchildren who all reside in this county,” Shelton said. ”My family operates Triple S Farm where we raise South Poll cattle, so I am accustomed to long hours and demanding work.

“I have been a business owner in this county for 40 years. I owned and operated Bill Shelton Construction and Pitts Bend Sand and Gravel before I purchased an existing trailer dealership here in Fayetteville in 2013 and renamed it to Wholesale Trailer Sales and Rental. County governments share business-like financial functions, such as budgeting, taxing, and providing services. With my business background, I understand the importance of creating a budget and adhering to that budget. Through the years, I have learned how to differentiate the wants from the needs.”

Shelton said in 2006 he was elected to represent District 8 on the Lincoln County Commission.

“During that time, I was active on the Beer Board and the Road Committee and took my job as a commissioner very seriously in all areas,” he said. “I believed then it was my duty to contact my constituents for their opinions and to listen when they called with questions on issues up for debate or vote. I felt it necessary to keep the public up to date on where taxpayer dollars were being used. This is transparency and something I believe in strongly still today. I considered my career in local government over until recently when I witnessed what I believe to be misuse of resources then requiring taxpayers to replenish those funds unwisely spent.

“This is my district and my family’s district, and I want to do what I can to ensure myself and the citizens that decisions made are for the betterment of all our residents, not just a few. Therefore, everyone can afford to stay and grow here. A commissioner’s job is important and one that I feel experience in business and local government is needed. It would be an honor for me to be elected as one of the voices for the citizens of District 8 once more.”
