25 years ago May 16, 2001 TO 25 SENIORS – Lincoln County High School’s top 25 graduating seniors were recently honored during a luncheon held at the Fayetteville Golf and Country Club, sponsored by Fayetteville Kiwanis Club. They included Michael Blair, Timothy Cohen, Jenny Renegar, Erin Morris, Andy Elliott, Jennifer Williams, John Gibson, Jonathan Brown, Tabitha Green, Holly Corder, Sarah Jones, Bethany Brown, Amanda Williams, Laura Spears, William Robinson, Elizabeth Mitchell, James Anderson, Stephanie Brown, Grace Hastings, Stephanie Bates, April Holman, Ashonda Steelman, Lucas Marshall and Sheena McLemore.

HOLBROOKS GAINS CONFERENCE SUPPORT – Sarah Holbrooks, a Lincoln County High School sophomore, has aspirations to be a senator one day. The 16-year-old has met the May 11 deadline to raise the funds necessary to attend the National Young Leaders Conference to be held in Washington, DC. She is the daughter of Sam and Susan Holbrooks of Fayetteville. She has two siblings, Amber, age 13, and Tyler, age six.

CHATTANOOGA BOUND – John Brown, Lincoln County Falcon tennis player, is bound for the Baylor School in Chattanooga after winning the individual region title Friday in Cookeville. Brown defeated Paul Howell of Lebanon (6-0), (6-1), and in a rematch of Thursday, he beat Allison (6-2), (6-2).

LOCAL JOBLESS RATE FALLS TO 3.5 PERCENT – Lincoln County’s jobless rate dropped to 3.5% for the month of March, according to the state Department of Employment Security. The county was among 70 of Tennessee’s 95 counties reporting decreases during the month, Tennessee’s March unemployment rate of 4.1% was unchanged over the month.

50 years ago May 18, 1976 BARNES TO HEAD TO POLICE TRAINING – Danny Barnes, formerly of Fayetteville, was recently promoted from a vice squad officer to head the Huntsville Police Academy’s training of recruits and ranger program. Mr. Barnes is a 1965 graduate of Lincoln Central High School and has served as an officer of the Huntsville Police force for five and a half years. He is the son of Mrs. Wilson Massey and Gordon Barnes of Fayetteville, and is married to the former Judy Fedrowisch of Huntsville.

WINS TEAM TITLE – Monday mayor mixed bowling league has concluded its winter season. Members of the league’s first-place team are Boyce Johnston, Vince Bailey, Mrs. Cindy M. Bailey, and Miss Pam Ricketts.

CREATE PATTERNS – Fashions and patterns are somewhat like the chicken and the egg – you can’t have one without the other. Behind the scenes for the Serbin Fashions are three of the company’s pattern makers. They are Tom Stevenson of Fayetteville, Nate Buchbinder, and Luke Powell of Miami, who were in Fayetteville for the recent salesmen meeting.

COMMENDS VOLUNTEERS – Members of the Fayetteville Business and Professional Women Club, sponsors of the annual Heart Fund Drive, were presented awards commending the club for raising $6,798 in the 1976 drive. Huell Houser, general campaign chairman, presented the awards at the Middle Tennessee Heart Association annual meeting and awards banquet in Nashville. On hand are Mrs. Evelyn Sams, Mrs. Brenda Mille, do-chairman, and Mrs. Lee Gallant, area chairman.
