Lincoln County Falcon Baseball drops opening district series to Cookeville Cavaliers

Lincoln County baseball lost both games of their first district series of the season. The Falcons were swept by the Cookeville Cavaliers.
Both teams entered the week ranked in the top 15 statewide, Lincoln County No. 8 and Cookeville No. 13. They were also in the top 10 in class 4A.
Lincoln County drew first blood, tacking on five runs in the second inning, all with two outs. They increased that lead to 6-0 in the fourth.
Then came the fifth inning, when the Falcons had to take out their starter Ian Weaver and go the bullpen. Cookeville capitalized and scored seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings combined to finish the comeback, 7-6.
Lincoln County traveled to Cookeville and got shut down. After scoring a run in the opening game, the Falcons gave up four runs before scoring again in the sixth.
Cookeville’s starter Case Collins managed to go the full seven-inning distance in just 96 pitches, clinching the win for Cookeville, 5-2.
Lincoln County will look to rebound with four games this week. It begins with district series against the Shelbyville Golden Eagles.
