Scammer poses as DirecTV installer
An individual posing as a DirecTV employee recently attempted to scam a Lincoln County resident by phone, according to a report by Lincoln County Deputy Karly Cotton.
The caller told the resident they needed to install a new program for their current devices.
When the resident was told to mail a payment by check to a jewelry store, they realized it was a scam, the report stated.
Victims of scams or frauds can visit the website STOPFRAUD.gov, which includes a list of companies where victims can report the crime. A few of those companies include: the Federal Trade Commission for reporting identity theft at 877-FTC-HELP; email spam — spam@uce.gov; mail fraud – U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455; or Medicare fraud – HHS Office of Inspector General at 800-447-8477 or www.oig.hhs.gov.
