Lincoln County Tennis begins postseason

Gibson secured the title by defeating Shelbyville’s top player, 6-3, 6-2, and was also named District Player of the Year. Coach Brown, a former Falcon Tennis standout, is in his 18th year as head coach of the LCHS tennis program. The victory advances Gibson to the individual Region Tournament at home on Friday, with opponent and time yet to be determined. Lincoln County tennis had a busy week of district tournament play last week. The toil has already brought home a championship.

It was junior Chloe Gibson who claimed the singles championship in the individual district tournament. Gibson was also named District Player of the Year.

Two Lady Falcons competed for the junior varsity championship. Klara Jichova was the victor over teammate Anabell Tate.

In the team district tournament, the Lady Falcons won their match 6-1 over Warren County. Lincoln County will play for the championship this week.

As for the Falcons, the freshmen duo of Grant Quick and Willis Thomas made it to the semifinal of the individual tournament before falling to Warren County.

Senior Zaki Lin also advanced to the semifinal in singles competition before being eliminated by District Player of the Year Henry Stone from Shelbyville.

As for the team district tournament, the Falcons lost their semifinal match to Lawrence County 3-4, ending Lincoln County’s boys’ season with an 11-10 record.

Head coach Jonathan Brown was named the Girls’ District Coach of the year. He looks to lead the Lady Falcons to their seventh consecutive district championship this week.
