Virgil D. Snoddy Jr. Obituary

Virgil D. Snoddy Jr., 90, of Kelso, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026, at his residence. He was born on Dec. 27, 1935, in Lincoln County, Tennessee, son of the late Virgil D. and Hattie Lenora Howell Snoddy.

Virgil served four years in the Navy and 17 years in the Air Force, retiring as a master Sergeant. During his military service, he traveled extensively, visiting 26 states and several countries, including Mexico, Canada, Cuba, Malta, France, England, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and Spain.

He worked for 10 years at Arnold Air Force Base before retiring to raise Paso Fino horses and enjoy trail riding. Over the years, he participated in many rides throughout Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. He especially cherished the times when one of his grandsons rode alongside him. He continued riding until the age of 84. Virgil was an Elder at Kelso Cumberland Presbyterian Church for 45 years.

He and his loving wife Jill Sweeney were married for 67 happy years. He and Jill had three children, Kym (Paul) Storey, Sindi (Walt) Honea and Steve (Jennifer) Snoddy; 11 grandchildren, Jared Honea, Dr. Garrett (Lauren) Honea, Spencer (Angie) Perrin, Stuart (Heidi) Perrin, Clinton Snoddy, John Robert (Peyton) Snoddy, Zach Snoddy, Sarah Beth (Steven) Dempsey, Dr. Collin (Brandon) Amos, Monica (Jonathan) Sumners and Alicia Storey (Mason Garman); 20 great-grandchildren, with three more expected this spring.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026, at Riverview Memorial Gardens.
