Walter A. Shurden Obituary
Walter A. Shurden, 92 of Fayetteville, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025, at Lynchburg Nursing Center in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
Walter is preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Shurden; sisters, Frances Poteet and Grace Fairley.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nancy M. Shurden; daughter, Leigh (Joey) Kimbrough; granddaughter, Crystal (Heath) Warden; brother, Herman (Marie) Shurden of Texas and a sister, Zenobia Ezell of Mississippi, nine nieces and nephews, extended family and lots of friends.
Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and no services are being planned at this time.
Walter was born Jan. 14, 1933, in Greenwood, Mississippi, to the late Walter H. and Beatrice W. Shurden.
He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1954 with a B.S. degree in accounting. He worked at the Marshall Space Flight Center for NASA in Huntsville, Alabama, until he retired in 1993.
He enjoyed many activities such as flying, where he spent 30 years in various roles at the Fayetteville Municipal Airport, traveling, his church at Fayetteville First Baptist, where he was a member since 1963 and served in many positions. He also loved reading and working on computers.
