Matthew Scott Williamson Obituary

Matthew Scott Williamson, 30, of New Market, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025. He was born in Huntsville, Alabama, on Dec. 19, 1994. Matthew was a proud father, devoted husband, loving son, and a loyal friend to everyone who knew him. He was an avid hunter, an outdoorsman, and a devoted fan of Alabama football. Matt was also known for his stubborn streak, his sharp dry wit, and his unwavering conviction when he believed he was right — attributes he expertly wielded in his relentless efforts to serve others.

From the time he was in kindergarten, Matt talked about a career in the military. His high score on the ASVAB gave him the opportunity to work in intelligence, his top choice. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force delayed entry program. His military journey began with basic training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, followed by technical training at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo, Texas.

He was then stationed at Creech AFB in Nevada, where his wife, Errin, joined him. It was there that his squadron gave him the nickname “Beast,” a nod to his “Redneck Disney-princess-like” ability to attract woodland creatures at will. A picture of him with a New Market deer named Bo sealed the deal. Matt’s next adventure was a move to Hickam AFB in Hawaii, where he was Airman of the Quarter multiple times. His career concluded at Scott AFB in Illinois after 10 years of service. During his time in the Air Force, he traveled the world, visiting places like South Korea, the DMZ, Guam, Alaska, and Japan.

Upon completion of his service, Matt and Errin returned home to New Market, where he continued his public service in support of the FBI as a field training and support specialist and as a civilian with the U.S. Army as a foreign intelligence officer.

His service awards include: Air and Space Commendation Medal, Meritorious Unit Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air and Space Outstanding Unit Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Readiness Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, AF Good Conduct Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Remote Combat Effects Campaign Medal with 2 Service Stars, Air and Space Overseas Service Ribbon Long, Air and Space Longevity Service Award with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, USAF NCO PME Graduate Ribbon, Air and Space Training Ribbon.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Tom Turner and Mary Gail Luna.

Matt is survived by his wife, Errin Williamson; daughters, Mattie Kate Williamson and Eliza Jane Williamson; parents, Heather and Brad Luna and Scott and Jennifer Turner; parents-in-law, Mike and Mary Lambert; grandparents, Kenneth and Vickie Williamson, Ann Turner, Ted Luna, Dave and Linda Hemingway; brother, Lucas Turner; brother-in-law, Michael Lambert Jr. and fiancé, Kelsey Nayman; and a host of extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life service was held on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2025, in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with Mark Branon officiating. Burial followed in Concord Cemetery with the Rev. Rickey Hyatt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the Matt Williamson Memorial Fund has been established at Redstone Federal Credit Union for Matt’s twin daughters. Donations may be made at any bank branch or mailed to 220 Wynn Drive, Huntsville, AL 35893.

Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Matthew Scott Williamson.
