Mr. Robert Pixley “Bob” Barnes Obituary
Mr. Robert Pixley “Bob” Barnes, 77, of Charlestown, Indiana, entered this life on May 27, 1947 in Fayetteville, Tennessee. He was the loving son of the late Bert and Nannie Ruth Corbin Barnes. He was a graduate of Fayetteville Central High School, and obtained his associate’s degree from Columbia State University. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on June 27, 1966, in Nashville, Tennessee. He rose to the rate of sergeant and served during the Vietnam War in the 55th WEA Recon Squadron. He was honorably discharged on July 24, 1970 at the McClelland Air Force Base in Sacramento, California. He married Beverly Ann Monroe on Jan. 6, 1986 in Madison. He worked for the Jefferson County Proving Ground as a safety specialist, and then retired from the Census Bureau as a statistical analysis supervisor. He was a member of the American Legion Post #204 and a lifetime member of the VFW in Madison, Indiana. He was of the Baptist faith. Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed his time golfing with a group of JPG retirees. He also loved watching his grandchildren play sports and made sure to never miss a game. He was an avid Tennessee Volunteers fan, loved playing golf and caring for his lawn. Robert died on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at 8:36 a.m. at the Hillcrest Village in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Robert has a loving family and will be missed by his loving wife of 38 years, Beverly Ann “Bev” Monroe Barnes of Charlestown, Indiana; his children, Allison Barnes Crain and her husband, Jonathan of Paulsbo, Washington, Kristina Lock Williams of Henryville, Indiana, Kyle Lock of Dupont, Indiana; his grandchildren, Evan, Karis, Kaden, Mazz, Kanon, Adrielle, and Adleigh; his great-grandchild, Talian; his sisters, Linda Reavis of Fayetteville, Tennessee, Ruthie White and her husband, George of Alabama, Suzanne Ivey and her husband, Mike of Tennessee; his brothers, Tommy Barnes and his wife, Debbie of Fayetteville, Tennessee, Julius Barnes and his wife, Mary Sue of Fayetteville, Tennessee; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert Barnes and Nannie Ruth Corbin Barnes, and his son, Brian Barnes died in 2020.
Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec.5, 2024, by Pastor Mike Huff at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana.
Friends may visit from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana.
A final salute with military honors will be provided by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.
