Roberta Maine Lindsey Obituary

Roberta Maxine Lindsey left this earth at 12:58 on Oct. 13, 2024.

Roberta was born on June 1, 1942, to Sherman Lee Emerson and Archie Louise Greene Emerson.  She grew up as a sharecropper in Ardmore, Alabama where she actually did walk barefoot both ways to and from school.

At 18, “Berta” began her career as a civil servant at Marshall Space Flight Center as a secretary for prominent NASA engineer Ernst Stuhlinger.  She later transitioned into the IT field, retiring from NASA in 2004.  Roberta was passionate about oil painting, earning many ribbons; she loved gardening. Known for her vibrant personality and kindness, she never met a stranger. Roberta made friends everywhere she went, and the staff at Baily Manor Fayetteville were like family to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Audry Johnson.

She is survived by her husband, Herbert Lindsey; son, Michael Andrew Travis (Kimberly); granddaughters, Amber and Laura (five great-grandchildren); daughter, Jodi Suzanne Crubaugh (Joseph): grandsons, William (one great-grandchild) and Tyler: granddaughter, Ana; stepson, Royce (Jodie): sisters, Gertude Young and Nancy Rich; and brother, Edward Emerson.

Visitation was held Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home with a graveside service following at Carters Cemetery with Bro. Heath Emerson officiating

In lieu of flowers please make donations to Gentiva Hospice or the National Alzheimer’s Foundation, simply give to a stranger in need, as that is what Berta would have wanted.

Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home is assisting the family with services.
