Ray Bostick Woods Sr. Obituary
Ray Bostick Woods Sr., 90, of Fayetteville, Tennessee, passed away on Sept. 24, 2024, at Valley View Health and Rehab in Madison, Alabama.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Green officiating. Private interment will take place in Valhalla Memory Gardens in Huntsville, Alabama.
Ray Woods was born on March 17, 1934, in Smithland, Tennessee, to the late Thomas and Vespher Bostick Woods. A graduate of Flintville High School in 1952, he continued his education at Tennessee Tech and later served in the U.S. Air Force, completing a tour in Korea. Ray was a member of Fayetteville First Baptist Church and enjoyed gatherings with the “McDonald’s Breakfast Club.” He was a charter member of the Marshall Space Flight Center and dedicated his 43-year career to the Marshall Space Flight Program, retiring in 2003.
Survivors include his daughter, Melissa Woods Hays and her husband Wade; grandchildren, Christopher (Chris) Ray Woods, Austin Keith Woods, Caroline Grace Anderson, Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Anderson, and Andrew (Andy) Lewis Bostick Anderson; sisters, Faye (Robert) Walker, and Emogene Taylor; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and loved ones. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Sharon Cox Woods; wife of 14 years, Kay Roland Woods; son, Ray “Chip” Woods Jr.; brothers, Orville Woods, and Ross Woods; and a sister, Elaine Powell.
