Barbara Jean Holman Monks, 89, of Fayetteville, Tennessee, passed away surrounded by her loving family Saturday, March 18, 2023, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. Jeremy Hudgins officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirkland Cemetery.

Barbara was born on Oct. 12, 1932, in Ardmore, Alabama, to the late Howard Holman and Gracie Ellis Holman. She was a member of the Kirkland Baptist Church and retired after 32 years at Highland Rim School as the secretary. Mrs. Monks loved spending time with her family playing dominos and cheering on the Tennessee Vols (Go Big Orange!). 

Survivors include her children, Rhonda Flynn, Scott Monks, and Paula (Lonnie) Bryant; grandchildren, Heather (Keith) Bradley, Jessica Green, Kristin Taylor, Nick (Meghan) Travis, Brittany (Cody) Wilson, Jamie (Karen) Harden, and Rodney (Dixie) Harden; great-grandchildren, Kolton and Bella Taylor, Carter and Rylan Bradley, Avary, Ainsley and Asa Green, Haven and Saylor Wilson, BentLee and Bailor Travis, Austin Harden, and Brett and Kelsey Harden.  In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, W. Paul Monks; daughter, Marsha Harden; and siblings, Elaine H. Green Hinds, Junior Holman, Jake Holman, and Colleen Pitts.
