Casper Reeves Carr Obituary
Casper Reeves Carr, 91, passed away on Jan. 7, 2023, in Fayetteville, Tennessee.
A beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Reeves graduated from Central High School in 1949 where he played football and tuba in the band. After graduation, he attended electrical school in Chicago and proudly served in the Air Force during the Korean War in French Morocco. Reeves moved to Montgomery, Alabama, where he met and married Dian Northington in 1953. They were parents to three children, who blessed them with six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, with one on the way. After the 2008 passing of Dian, Reeves returned to his hometown of Fayetteville. He married his high school sweetheart, Janice Payne, in 2009. They were members of First United Methodist Church in Fayetteville.
Reeves served as deacon at Eastern Hills Baptist Church and Eastmont Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, and at Prattville Baptist Church in Prattville, Alabama. Reeves enjoyed a multitude of activities such as singing in the choir, fishing, football refereeing, reading westerns, arts and crafts, square dancing, camping across the USA, driving buses for church groups (he will be missed by his good friend Brad Wilson, driving up and down the interstates), watching sports, and volunteering at Lifeway Ridgecrest Conference Center in North Carolina. Reeves retired from civil service with the Veterans Administration in Montgomery, Alabama.
Reeves was preceded in death by his parents, James Grover and Vergie Mae Neely Carr; sister, Norma Jean Elder McKinney; nephew, Tripp Elder; and wife of 54 years, Dian Northington Carr.
Reeves is survived by his wife, Janice Payne Carr. Children, Debbie Carr Frederick of Montgomery, Alabama; James (Kristy) Carr of Indian Springs, Alabama; David (Teresa) Carr of Prattville, Alabama; step-children, Joel (Debbie) Hastings of Taft, Tennessee; Bob (Sherrie) Maddox of Fayetteville, Tennessee; Steve (Linda) Maddox of Fayetteville, Tennessee; and Lee (Lissie) Maddox of Columbia, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jenny Frederick, Amy (Kenny) Stewart, Kerrie (Jared) Kessee, Michael (Noel) Carr, Julie Carr, and Shannon Silva; great-grandchildren, Abby, Duncan, JohnDavid, Joseph, Liam, and one on the way, plus nine step-great-grandchildren. He was a favorite uncle to 15 nieces and nephews and numerous cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Ward and the Rev. Tommy Vann officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023, at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery, Alabama.
