SCHRA is offering free summer meals for eligible kids

No child should ever go hungry!
Sadly, they do, especially during the summer months when school meals are unavailable. Approximately 700,000 Tennessee children — or one in six — face hunger, according to No Kid Hungry, a nonprofit that believes all children and families deserve to live free from hunger and poverty. Studies from the organization show that 62% of Tennessee families struggle to provide their kids with enough nutritious food during the summer, and with budgets already stretched thin to cover everyday expenses, the math gets harder every year.
The South Central Human Resource Agency (SCHRA) is offering free summer meals for Lincoln County kids in eligible households through its Summer Food Services program. Early registration is encouraged. According to SCHRA, program participation is subject to funding and availability.
Registration is now open for children aged 18 and under, with weekly Friday distributions available throughout the summer. Online registration is available at www.schra. us/summer-food.
Each box includes seven shelf-stable breakfasts and seven shelf-stable lunches. Pickup is from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Fridays from May 29 through July 24 — including May 29, June 5, June 12, June 28, June 26, July 2, July 10, July 17 and July 24 — at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. Holiday weeks will be distributed on Thursday, June 18 and July 2.
