25 years ago May 9, 2001 BOYS TENNIS WINS THIRD DISTRICT TITLE – The Lincoln County High School boys tennis team won their third straight district championship Wednesday by sweeping the singles and doubles crowns at Lakewood Country Club in Tullahoma. “With the three seniors I have, it makes winning it three years in a row special. John Brown, Caleb Brewer, and Jude Bhika had on the program,” Falcon Tennis Coach Troy Slone said. “I could always count on a win,” Slone said of Brown. “I was counting his points in district, before it got started.”
ELDRIDGE NAMED RCA ADMINISTRATOR
– Officials from Riverside Christian Academy announced this week that Daniel Eldridge has been named as the school’s administrator. Eldridge, who has been serving as director of development for the school, will be in charge of all operations and advertising, as well as business management and development.
MATH CONTEST WINNERS
– Three students from Lincoln County High Schools were winners in the 2001 Tennessee Mathematics Teachers Association Math Contest held recently at Martin Methodist College. On hand with LCHS mathematics teacher, John Taylor, are Laura Beth Slone, who placed second in Advanced Topics I; Mike Blair, who placed second in Advanced Topics II; and Will Scott, who placed second in Geometry. The competition included 185 students from 10 schools in the region. This was the 45th annual statewide high school mathematics competition.
BRYANT RETIRES – Donnie Moorehead, supervisor with Amana, presents Linda Bryant with a plaque after 22 years of service. Her retirement goes into effect June 1.
50 years ago May 13, 1976 TO PERFORM ON SQUARE
– 27 Strings and a Broom, a country and gospel group from Fayetteville First Baptist Church, will perform on the square May 29 during the Bicentennial celebration. The group is made up of members of the church’s youth choir. Members are Lawton Neeley, who is minister of music and youth, Jody Smith, Rusty Horn, Brian Mann, and Mike Anderson.
AMANA RECEIVES INTERNATIONAL VISITORS
– Amana welcomed 153 guests from around the world to their international distributor convention, giving the visitors a taste of local food and local experiences. The following are some of the first-time experiences the travelers received.
Rides Tennessee Walker
– Keikhosrow Emami of Tehran, Iran, said he has ridden Arabian stallions before, but has never been on a Tennessee walking horse until Wednesday. Bon Bell, trainer for Perfections Queen, owned by Bud Rambo of Fayetteville, gives Mr. Emami some riding pointers.
Enjoys Fried Chicken – Some southern- style finger-lickin ’ chicken was in order after Vilhjalmir Georgeson of Iceland finished her first piece of fried chicken. She was a visitor at the Amana’s international distributor convention.
WINS BIBLE DRILL – Winners in the Kirkland Baptist Church Bible drill will participate June 5 in the associational drill at Park City Baptist Church. The winners are Shawn Denstord, Chris Densford, Monica Winsett, Kim Massey and Teresa Winsett.
CREATE PATTERNS – Fashions and patterns are like the chicken and the egg — you can’t have one without the other. Behind the scenes for the Serbin Fashions are three of the company’s pattern makers: Tom Stevenson, Fayetteville; Nate Buchbinder and Luke Powell of Miami, who were in Fayetteville for the recent salesman meeting.
