25 years ago May 2, 2001 Landscaping underway – A handful of Leadership Lincoln Class of 2001 gather at the grounds of the Kelly Pittenger Senior Citizens Center to plant flowers and a variety of plants. The landscaping was one of two efforts the group took on as a project this year. The other is seeing the groundwork is laid for the establishment of a child advocacy center, called Junior’s House, here. Helping in the landscaping efforts are David Smith, Mike Green, Mike Russell, Robert Conley, Jean Combs and Martha Lyon.
Falcon Soccer christens new field – They finally have a place to call their own. After playing at Don Davidson Park for many seasons, the Lincoln County soccer programs christened their new field by defeating the Giles County Bobcats 5-1.
Volunteer Week – In honor of National Volunteer Week, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program treated the VFITA volunteers to dinner and a tour of the Old Cowan Plantation located on the Old Boonshill Road. On hand were Mary Harris, Carolyn Ellis, Judy Fowler, Betty Johnson, MM Hallum, Ben Williams, David Kern, Lynn Barnes and Tom Faircloth. VITA volunteers start in January, filing income tax forms for low-income, minority, disabled, or elderly residents of Lincoln County.
For the Dodgers – Emily Oldham, daughter of Fayetteville’s Glen and Celia Oldham, sang the National Anthem for the Dodgers on April 7. Emily was one of four selected to sing for the Dodgers after auditioning earlier in the week. The trip was made as part of a school outing, which also saw the chorus perform at Disneyland and several other attractions.
50 years ago May 6, 1976 Sunday is their day Sunday will be a very special day for mothers of all ages. It’s called Mother’s Day. Special gifts, kind works and acts will be appreciated by moms. Two mothers who will enjoy the latest addition to the Bob Ashby family on Second Avenue in Fayetteville include Mrs. Bob (Linda) Ashby with her daughter, Heather, born April 3, and the child’s grandmother, Mrs. Stiles Ashby.
Vice presidents meet Meeting at the new West College Street Branch of Lincoln County Bank includes Ray Wilson, vice president and manager of the new branch; Gerald Monks, vice president and manager of the Pea Ridge Branch; and Allen Henson, vice president and cashier of the main banking facility on East College Street.
Service honored – Members of the Flintville Home Demonstration Club celebrated the club’s first 50 years with a tea honoring the only active charter member — Mrs. Lyda Ruth Myrick. On hand are Mrs. Daisy Copeland, secretary; Mrs. Thomas Hudson, president; and Mrs. Gilbert Bradley, treasurer and hostess for the afternoon event.
Gleghorn with Lincoln County Bank – Charles E. Gleghorn, executive vice president of Lincoln County Bank, has been associated with that firm since 1960. A native of Lincoln County and a graduate of Boonshill High School. Mr. Gleghorn attended Middle Tennessee State University before his employment with Lincoln County Bank. Since 1969, he has held several bank positions, including being the branch manager of both bank branch offices. Gleghorn has also been an assistant cashier, a cashier, assistant vice president, and currently executive vice president.
