Community to celebrate America’s 250 birthday

America’s 250th birthday will be celebrated on July 4, 2026, marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence that announced the nation’s separation from Great Britain and established the principles of liberty and self-government.
Fayetteville-Lincoln County will celebrate America 250 “Honoring our past, celebrating our future,” beginning Saturday, June 27, with events through Saturday, July 4.
• On June 27 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. locals have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the community’s history with a walk through Camp Blount and a tour through the historic Joseph Greer Cabin. Camp Blount is located at 1371 Huntsville Highway (U.S. Hwy 431).
• Also on June 27, the Fourth of July Celebration begins at 4:30 p.m. at Don Davidson Park. The City of Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Department will feature live music, food trucks, bounce houses for the kids and more! Fireworks start at 9 p.m. at the park, located at 1701 Wilson Parkway.
• From June 27 through July 4 a Patriotic Quilt Display may be seen at the Lincoln County Courthouse. The quilt display is sponsored by the Wonky Sewing Sewcial.
• A Birthday Camp, sponsored by UT/TSU Extension Lincoln County 4-H, for students in grades 4-12 is from 9 a.m. until noon, Thursday, July 2. Camp activities include stick weaving, embroidery, cardboard weaving, bobbin-knitting, 1776 mobile doodling in red, white and blue, and an apple pie fest. Cost is $10 per camper. Students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue. To register, call 931-433-1582 or email aheffing@utk.edu. The camp will be held at 208 Davidson Drive East in Fayetteville.
• On July 4 the day begins with the Race to Main River Race sponsored by Fayetteville Main Street and Frito- Lay.
• Next, a special First Saturday event is planned. Farmers and vendors will have produce and crafts on the downtown square from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
• From 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. another special event takes place at Camp Blount with music by Danny Pigg, a cornhole tournament, free kids’ games, face painting, a bouncy house and snow cones. Hamburgers, poolroom slawburgers and hotdog plates will be served. There will be fun activities for all ages. Celebrate America, family, freedom and community at the event is presented by the American Legion Post 111. Sponsors for the event are New Hats for Vets and Currin’s Discount Tires.
•Stars, Stripes and Hometown Nights, a family-friendly event, will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Stone Bridge Park. Four on the Floor takes the stage from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. The Kids Zone will have games and inflatables. Food trucks will be on site and special sparkle will wind up the celebration. Bring your chair or quilt to the event.
