Wayne Mitchell, 72, of Flintville, Tennessee, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, at St. Thomas West Hospital. He was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee, on Jan. 27, 1953, son of the late James Bartlett and Laura Willene Wells Mitchell.

Wayne was a man whose life reflected devotion — to his work, his family, and his community. Born and raised with a steadfast work ethic and a deep love for people, he dedicated 35 years of service to the CSX railroad. His colleagues knew him as reliable and committed, a man who could be counted on in every season.

Beyond his career, Wayne poured his energy into the community he cherished. He was a proud supporter of 4-H with more than 20 years of attending 4-H camp as an adult leader, encouraging youth to grow in confidence and character. His leadership extended to Moores Cemetery, where he served faithfully as chairman of the board and caretaker, ensuring that the resting place of loved ones was tended with reverence and care.

In addition to his parents, Wayne is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Suzie Mitchell, his partner in faith and family, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and laughter.

He leaves behind two sons, Machale Mitchell (wife Cassandra) and Beau Mitchell, who carry forward his legacy of resilience, humor, and devotion. He is also survived by his cherished grandson, Mason Kelly, who brought him great joy.

Known for his delight in life’s simple pleasures, Wayne loved to eat, talk, and connect with those around him. His warmth, storytelling, and laughter were gifts freely given, and they will echo in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Moores Cemetery.

Though he has departed this world, his memory will remain a guiding light — living on in his sons, his grandson, his friends, and the community he served so faithfully.
