Evelyn Joyce Monks Obituary

Evelyn Joyce Monks, 93, of Fayetteville, Tennessee, passed away Sept. 8, 2024, at Donalson Care Center.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Stewart Cemetery.

Joyce was born on Aug. 6, 1931, in Lincoln County, Tennessee, to the late Horace Walker and Susie Fanning Walker. She dedicated her career to working as a contractor at Redstone Arsenal and was an active member of Prospect Baptist Church, where she served as the first children’s church leader and sang in the choir.

She is survived by her son, Steve Monks; her granddaughter, Tiffany (Daniel) Kimbrough; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Russell Monks; her sister, Maurine (Tuck) Tucker; her brothers, Melvin (Mary) Walker and Gordon (Monnie) Walker; as well as her sisters-in-law, Alda (John) Hurt and Naomi (Elgie) Hopkins; and her brothers-in-law, Philip (Alberta) Monks, Diemer (Sula) Monks, and JT (Ethelyne) Monks.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care and support provided by Donalson Care Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Fayetteville-Lincoln County Animal Shelter, 1718 Pulaski Hwy., Fayetteville, TN 37334.
