Charlotte Faye Massey Obituary

Charlotte Faye Massey, 83, the beloved matriarch of the George M. Massey Sr. family, passed away on Sept. 27, 2023, due to an acute illness.

Faye was the much loved and precious wife to George for 65 happy years and the adored mother to their three children, Ellen Massey (Mike Horner), Suzanne Oliver, George Massey (Courtney Massey). As much as she loved and doted on these family members, nothing could compare to the overwhelming love and special connection she had with her grandchildren; Damek Izo (Isabella Rivero), Sadie Izo-Foster, Simone Horner (Cameron Hashmi), Olivia, Haley, and Max Massey. She also had the joy of being involved with her three great-grandchildren, Banks and Charlotte Izo and Georgia Foster.

Faye was a favorite aunt to her nieces and nephews, a special sister-in-law to Con and Betty Massey, and a beloved cousin. She was especially close to her cousins, Carolyn Brooks and Ellen Carper, and she considered them both to be her sisters.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Mattie Moorehead, and older siblings, Hilton Moorehead and Joyce Smith, and brother-in-law, John Massey. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Doug Oliver, and grandson-in-law, Justin Foster, both of whom she mourned with a deep, abiding love.

Faye was an amazingly talented and artistic woman who was as beautiful in spirit as she was in appearance. She never lost her sassy attitude which served her well as she traversed the globe as George’s faithful military wife, and later as his favorite travel partner. During their years of service and beyond, she gathered friendships and treasured those connections always.

She was the backbone and strength of our family simply by being her authentic self and expected nothing less from us. She leaves as her legacy the power of caring deeply for those you love with your whole heart and being. We will live out this legacy to the best of our abilities.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be held from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023, at the Youth Center of First Baptist Church, 210 North Elk Avenue, Fayetteville.
