Mary J. “Jackie” Bowman Obituary

Mary J. “Jackie” Bowman, 75, of Belvidere, passed away after a short illness Saturday, March 11, 2023.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Lamar and Johnnie Z. Brazier of Winchester, and a brother, Marvin (Pat) Brazier of Nashville.

Jackie is survived by her husband of nearly 53 years, Jimmie C. Bowman; sons, Dan Tice (Karen) of Winchester, Bill Bowman (Marie) of Estill Springs, Doug Bowman of Fayetteville, and daughter, Cassie Gulley of Belvidere; six grandchildren, Blake Bowman, Patrick Tice, Kelsi Murphy, Autumn Bowman, Austin Howton, and Harley Gulley; and three great grandchildren, Skyla, Evin, and Hayden Bowman.

Other family members include siblings, Evon (the late Bobby) Tucker of Belvidere, Larry Brazier (Betsy) of Winchester, and David (Argie) Durham of Madisonville, Kentucky; inlaws, Judy (Les) Bradford and Robin (Mike) Keith; and many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Jackie, Jim, and their children moved to the Franklin County area in the late 1970’s. Until retirement, Jackie worked in Lynchburg and Huntland, always in service roles.  Jackie’s gift of gab and larger than life personality meant she never met a stranger.

Jackie was a music lover and a gifted “play by ear” pianist and accordionist.  In her teenage years, she played music in her church, and even recorded an album in her early twenties.  She was the epitome of a “southern cook.”  In recent years, the couple enjoyed time with family, who affectionately refer to them as “Granny Jack and Papaw Jim”.  Jackie treasured “porch time” with family and friends, drinking coffee, and watching wildlife.
