COX SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENT – Joe Cummins IV accepts the Donna Cox Memorial Scholarship. On hand were Mike Russell from Motlow College and Donna and Jimmy Cox.
BAIILEY, MASON EARN DEGREES – Two local students were among those awarded degrees during the University of Alabama’s spring commencement exercises held on the Tuscaloosa Campus. Local residents receiving degrees were Carlen M. Bailey with a bachelor of science in commerce and business administration and Deanna Marie Mason with a bachelor of arts in communication.
WILLIAMS RECEIVES EMPLOYEE SCHOLARSHIP – Amanda Williams, a McDonald’s restaurant employee at the Fayetteville location, has been awarded a $1,000 McDonald’s Nashville Region Scholarship Award. The program awarded scholarships to 25 eligible employees in Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and Missouri.
FAYETTEVILLE WINS TML EXCELLENCE AWARD IN PARKS – Fayetteville’s preservation of its history while at the same time providing new recreational opportunities for its residents is being recognized by the Tennessee Municipal League for the city’s excellence in parks and recreation. The city’s newly completed Stone Bridge Park features a miniature replica of a historical bridge that once served as a vital connector for the county and played a significant role during the Civil War. Originally built in 1858, the bridge was built of limestone and featured six elliptical arches. The replica was built using some of the original limestone rock and spans a manmade channel. At its mouth, water cascades over a wall of limestone.

June 10, 1976 POSTER WINS – Cindy Cunningham, a fifth grader at Robert E Lee School, won first place in the Lincoln County 4-H dairy poster contest. Cindy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Cunningham of Fayetteville. Her poster will now be entered at the district competition.
ELORA ‘FRIENDS’ NAME OFFICERS – A parent-teacher and friends’ program was recently organized at the Elora Elementary School in Lincoln County. Officers elected are Earl T. Jones, president. Mrs. Gayle Howard, vice president, and Mrs. Carole Williams, secretary and treasurer. Membership is $1 per person. All proceeds will be used for the organization’s first project of installing air conditioners in each of the classrooms at the school.
WED 67 YEARS – Mr. and Mrs. Homer Norman of Lynchburg observed their 67th wedding anniversary on June 9. They are the parents of two daughters, Mrs. Viloa Mielsap, Mrs. Don Bobo, both of Lynchburg, one son, Lawrence Norman of Fayetteville, and have 11 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren.
EARNS HONORS AT U-T MEMPHIS – Alton S. King Jr., grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. S.J. King Sr. of Lincoln County and nephew of Mayor S.J. King of Fayetteville, graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee School of Medicine in Memphis. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Alton S. King of Fayetteville, Dr. King collected three of the medical school’s top honors.
