Local store loses cash, merchandise following smash and grab
A Fayetteville Police officer was dispatched to a Huntsville Highway store early Saturday morning (May 23) following a smash and grab alarm.
When Patrolman Sherrell Summers arrived about 1:30 a.m. she reported seeing two glass doors that had been pried open. The store’s alarm system had been smashed and ripped from the wall. Two cash registers had been opened and emptied and a third had been vandalized, but not broken into completely, the report stated.
According to the report, loose change was left on the floor. A large amount of cash was taken and several thousand dol-lars- worth of cell phones were stolen.
Upon further investigation that evening, detectives found that an attempt was made to break into another business about a mile south on Huntsville Highway. However, the person failed to gain entry to the building, according to the police report.
