May 30, 2001 SPECIAL DIPLOMA – Stan Golden, director of schools for Lincoln County, congratulates Billy Parker, a World War II veteran, just after presenting him with his high school diploma. The veteran was drafted into the service just prior to his own graduation. More than 300 seniors also received their diplomas during the exercises on Falcon Field Thursday evening.

STEEL FRAME ERECTED FOR CHRISTIAN ACADEMY – After weeks of planning and site preparation, officials at Riverside Christian Academy watched the steel frame of their 68,000 square-foot facility begin to take shape. RCA will open this fall with classes ranging from preschool through sixth grade, with the possibility of a seventh grade, officials said.

OFFICIAL PINNING – Frances Phillips, Central Junior High School teacher, announces Wilson Reading Corps graduates as Lt. Col Jeff Bonner of the United States Army conducts an official pinning ceremony held for the students in the school auditorium. Also on hand were Travis Mann, Sabrina Tucker, Jason Simms, Rachel Malone, Gwen Ponder, Amanda Kay Blalock, Eric Price, Amanda Watson, Jonathan Cole, Matthew Nix, and Sgt. Steve Parks of the Tennessee National Guard.

RICHARD MANN REMEMBERED – Family members honor the memory of the late Richard Clayton Mann with the sponsorship of a bench located in front of Bagley and Bagley Insurance. Those on hand are Brent Mann, Brooke Mann, Augusta Newgent, Clayton Mann, Austin Mann, Betty Mann, Amanda Newgent, Karen Mann, Donna Newgent, Jean Ward, Helen Clark, Dana Mann, Jeff Newgent, Heath Mann, Hap Mann, and Darrell Mann.

June 3, 1976 TOP ACADEMICALLY – Six Lincoln Central High School students were honored Tuesday as academic leaders of their respective classes. At an assembly, they received the coveted Rotary awards, given annually to the first and second students in each class. Winners are Tom Hamilton, number two junior; Mark Rutledge, number one junior; Cheryl Randolph, number one sophomore; Holly De-Berry, number two sophomore; and Mike Sisk and Ann Tucker, number two and number one freshman respectively.

HEAD ROTARY EVENT – June 19 is the date for the annual Rotary Club fish fry to be held at Fayetteville Recreation Center. Tickets on sale by Rotarians are $3 for adults and $2 for children. Fayetteville Rotary Club leaders of the annual fund raising event to benefit club projects are Ernest Rees, cooking chairman, Ed Sandlin project chairman, David Bagley, ticket chairman and Jack Richardson, chairman.

PLAN FOR EXCHANGE – Con Bonner, a senior at Lincoln Central High School, meets with Pangle Stewart, chairman of the Fayetteville Lions Club, who will leave July 8. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Bonner, Hillwood Road, Fayetteville.

THREE CITY TEACHERS RETIRING – Three veteran educators are retiring from the Fayetteville City School system after contributing a total of 100 years of experience to area students. The teachers, Mrs. Ruth Davidson, Mrs. Kathleen T. Smith, and Mrs. David Sloan were honored earlier this week at a tea hosted by the Fayetteville Education Association.
