Tennessee Kids Summer Challenge is open to rising kindergartners through sixth grade

Staff reports

Summer is just around the corner and kids will be looking for something to do while they are out of school. An opportunity is available through First Lady Maria Lee’s Tennessee Kids Serve Summer Challenge!

Tennessee Kids Summer Challenge is open from June 1 through Aug. 2 to all rising kindergartners through rising sixth graders, providing an opportunity to devote a portion of their summer break to serving the community.

More than 3,000 kids have participated in the summer challenge since 2019, having served 11,147 collective hours in Tennessee communities.

To fulfill the challenge participants must complete a service activity from at least two of the eight service categories provided and a minimum of service hours to complete the challenge.

All students who complete the challenge will receive a certificate of recognition signed by First Lady Marie Lee. Top challenge participants will be invited to join the governor and first lady for a carnival at the Tennessee residence in September. The summer challenge is the perfect opportunity for kids to learn about the importance of service while keeping them engaged in fun, family-friendly activities during their summer break.
