Honor a hero this Memorial Day at the library

Staff reports
In honor of Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, the Fayetteville-Lincoln County Public Library is creating a special, community-driven display to recognize and remember the heroes of our community. The library is inviting community members to submit tributes to veterans and service members who hold a special place in their hearts. The submissions will create a meaningful Memorial Day display that reflects remembrance and appreciation across Lincoln County, said Meghan Murr, library director.
According to Murr, participation is simple:
• Submit a photo (4-by-6 or smaller);
• Visit the library to complete a display card with a brief description and attach the photo;
• Submit a tribute online at: https:// www. flcpl. org/ memorial- display-2026.
Submission deadline is May 4.
Memorial Day is an American holiday honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season.
