Fayetteville man scammed while searching for rental property
A Fayetteville man was recently scammed while searching for a property to rent. The mdividual was advised by a man posing as a realtor that a property was for rent on Terry Avenue.
According to the report prepared by Patrolman Ezekiel Thompson, the victim stated that the scammer said his name was “David the Realtor” and he spoke with a foreign accent. The scammer advised his intended victim that he would have to pay $50 for an application fee and $100 for a deposit 011 the property. He further advised him to pay with an Apple pre-paid card. The victim sent the man pictures of the card and the scammer followed up by asking him to purchase another card for $250 for the rent. The victim then decided to report the incident to the police. He had given the scammer $150, his date of birth, address and phone number, but not his Social Security number, according to the police report.
