The 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States is approaching. Lincoln County and Fayetteville City officials said the county has a unique opportunity to “come together in celebration of our nation’s history, our shared vision and the strong community spirit that defines the county.”

Officials with the America 250 Planning Committee is planning a county-wide America 250 celebration, which will take place from June 27 through July 4. The weeklong celebration is aimed at highlighting the rich heritage, civic pride and community partnerships that make Lincoln County and Fayetteville such special places to live, work and serve.

The America 250 Planning Committee, including Lincoln County Mayor Bill Newman, Fayetteville Mayor Donna Hartman, Fayetteville City Administrator Kevin Owens and Assistant to the County Mayor Laura Monks, are encouraging local businesses, churches, groups, schools and nonprofits to consider hosting or participating in activities throughout the week. Possible events may include community gatherings, historical presentations, patriotic concerts, volunteer projects, youth activities, exhibits, parades, or other creative ways to celebrate our nation’s 250th birthday.

According to the America 250 Planning Committee, the goal is to create a full week of events that showcase talents, traditions and the generosity of the community while honoring the ideals of freedom and service that have shaped the nation for two and a half centuries.

Organizations interested in participating or partnering with other

groups to host an activity during the celebration week should submit the event by emailing mayor@lc-tn.com or delivering it to the Lincoln County Mayor’s Office in the Lincoln County Courthouse. Information should be submitted to the Lincoln County Mayor’s Office by April 30. Information should include a description of the event, where it will be held including the date and times and contact information for follow up questions.

The goal of the America 250 Planning Committee is to develop a comprehensive schedule of events and to share the schedule in June ahead of the celebration.
