25 years ago April 4, 2001 Fishing tourney held – The Lincoln County Sportsman’s Club held its March Fishing Tournament recently on Guntersville Lake. Bobby Harmon and Lucas Hamlin won with a weight of more than 30 pounds. Second place went to John Teters and Jack Atchley Sr. with a weight of 18.6.
Shepard to intern with The Tennessean – Brad Shepard, a 1998 graduate of Lincoln County High School, is the 2001 recipient of the Scripps Howard Internship at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Shepard is the son of Steve and Kathy Shepard of Elora and the Vanntown area of Lincoln County. He is the grandson of Marie Shepard of Elora and the late Howard Shepard and Louis Marlow of Fayetteville and the late Grady Marlow.
State Award Winners – Lincoln County High School teachers Betty Taylor and Valerie Sides with students Lucas Marshall and Sheena Hollis, recent winners in the state competition of the Business Professionals of America at Middle Tennessee State University in March.
Amana Retiree – Amana foreman Joe Moore presented James Cannon with a plaque of recognition for his service to the company. Cannon is retiring after 27 years with Amana.
50 years ago April 1 1976
Ready for Sale – John Ed Underwood, chairman of the Fayetteville Lions Club broom and mop sale, looks over its items that go on sale Tuesday. Proceeds are used for the club’s sight conservation program and other projects.
Mattco Buys Dairy Queen Sykes Dairy Queen in Fayetteville has been sold to Mattco Enterprises, which owns restaurants in two other Tennessee towns.
To Lead Horsemen – Officers have been selected for the Lincoln County Association, which will be sponsored by their annual ‘Early Bird Special ‘horse show on April 10. Officers are Leota Himebough, treasurer; Sarah Finley, secretary; Don Templeton, president; Helen Jones, public relations; and Dr. W.D. Jones, vice president.
Fraternal Leaders – Recently elected officers of the Elks Lodge 1792 in Fayetteville will be installed during the April meeting at the clubhouse on Huntsville Highway. Lodge leaders include Major Hamilton James R. Golden, treasurer Pete Smith Jr., esteemed leading knight; Wayne Moore, exalted ruler; Bill Johnson, esteemed loyal knight; Don Jared, tiler; Doug Roach, esteemed lecturing knight; and John Gray, secretary.
