Samuel Jesse Beddingfield Obituary

Samuel Jesse Beddingfield, 90, retired employee of Bellsouth and resident of Columbia, died Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Brookdale Assisted Living.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Wilson Henderson officiating. Burial was held in Kirkland Cemetery in Lincoln County. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

Born April 22, 1932, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late Charlie Beddingfield and the late Nova Winford Beddingfield. He graduated from Blanche High School in 1950. On July 18, 1953, he married Hazel Marie McMillen Beddingfield who preceded him in death Oct. 4, 2019. Sam worked 44 years with AT&T. He was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved the University of Tennessee sports and loved coaching sports, especially baseball. He had a 21-0 record in BabeRuth Baseball which has never been broken. Mr. Beddingfield was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church, where he was former Deacon for 50 years and taught Sunday school class for over 20 years. He was a member of Sugar Ridge Bluegrass Band and sang tenor while playing guitar. 

Survivors include his son, Ricky Ray Beddingfield (Penny Worley).

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.
