Bernard “Lynn” Brown Obituary

Bernard “Lynn” Brown, 90, of Fayetteville, Tennessee, passed away on Jan. 6, 2025, at Bailey Manor after a three-year battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

He was born in Lincoln County, Tennessee, on Dec. 19, 1934, to the late George Allen Brown and Stella Darnell Brown. He was a faithful member of the West Fayetteville Church of Christ. Lynn graduated from Central High School in 1953 (the year the building burned). In 1955, he married Sylvia Nell Franklin. They were married for 69 years. Lynn was a Veteran of the US Army serving in Hanau, Germany in 695th Medical Corps from 1957-1959 achieving the rank of SP4.

Lynn was a graduate of the National Radio Institute. He worked at Heil Quaker, Serbin Hayes, Chrysler, Transpectra, and Teledyne in Lewisburg, retiring after 18 years. He returned to work for Defense Contract Agency in Huntsville, Alabama, as Quality Assurance Specialist for 11 years before retiring in 2000. He was a coordinator for Lincoln County Church of Christ First Sunday Singings until his health prevented him. Lynn enjoyed leading songs at worship services. He was a fix-all man and could repair most anything.

In addition to his parents, Lynn was preceded in death by his sister, Melba Weaver, and a brother, Robert Allen Brown. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Franklin Brown; son, Barry Michael Brown and wife Jennifer of Bowling Green, Kentucky; granddaughters, Dr. Kelley (Nathaniel) Lay of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Ashley Brown of Fayetteville; great-grandson, Pierce Alexander Lay; and a sister, Sandra Faye Lunn of Cornersville.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, with Bro. Steve Miller officiating. Burial followed in Talley Cemetery in Petersburg, Tennessee.
