James Delano Light Obituary

James Delano Light, 88, of Kelso, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Ruth, Alabama, on May 4, 1937, to the late Vercie Hoyt and Alma Elizabeth Cook Light. He served as a deacon for 51 years, and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He retired from Halsey Food service and enjoyed coin collecting and knife collecting. Delano was a Veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the Lion’s Club.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo McCaleb Light; child, Baby Light; granddaughter, Erin Petty; and son-in-law, Daniel Jerome.

Mr. Light is survived by his daughters, Mona (Jerry) Petty, Renee Jerome and Becky Christa; grandchildren, Amy (Josh) Mitchell, Heather Petty, Jennifer Jerome, Cyndi Jerome, Caleb (Hannah) Christa, Joshua Christa and Ryan Christa; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Wilburn, Kiana Petty, Alyssa Petty, Aaron Petty, Jaylee Brown, Sunny Jerome, Wyatt Christa, Memphis Christa and Ollie Christa; sister, Judy (Ronnie) Fudge; and nephew, Jason (Sigrid) Fudge and son, Jake.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, in the chapel of Gallant-Riverview Funeral Home with the Rev. Milton Martin, the Rev. Ed Johnson and Bro. Jeremy Ogle officiating.
