Fayetteville High School’s Tiger baseball team took two big wins on the week, falling to a tough Eagleville squad as district tournament play opened.
On Monday of last week, the Tigers had a big win over Santa Fe, notching 15 hits in the 17-3 win. Jonathan Cannon was an RBI machine, driving in seven on two hits to lead the Tigers.
After putting up five runs in the first inning, Fayetteville’s offense caught fire and added another 10 runs in the second inning, led by Andy Locker, Cannon, Josh Thomas, Zayshon Pullen and GW Davis all knocking in runs in the inning. The Tigers added another 2 runs in the fourth in the win.
Davis was the winning pitcher for Fayetteville. The ace went three innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out eight and walking zero. Jacob Thomas and Locker entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Fayetteville socked one home run on the day when Cannon hit the long ball in the first inning.
The Tigers totaled 15 hits. Davis, Locker, Cannon, Thomas and Sam Holdmeyer each collected multiple.
The Tigers were sure-handed in the field, committing no errors on the night.
FHS continued its winning ways on Thursday, taking an 8-0 shutout victory over the Bulldogs from Cornersville.
Fayetteville secured the victory thanks to five runs in the sixth inning. The offensive firepower was led by Sheridan and Burk, who each had RBIs in the inning. The Tigers added 2 runs to the board in the third and 1 in the fifth.
Burk got the win for Fayetteville. The fireballer allowed one hit and zero runs over five and a third innings, striking out 13. GW Davis threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Fayetteville smacked one homerun on the day when Andy Locker went deep in the third inning.
The Tigers racked up 11 hits in the game. Burk, Sheridan and Locker all managed multiple hits for Fayetteville. Burk went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Fayetteville in hits. The Tigers didn’t commit a single error in the field.
On Friday night, Fayetteville lost to a tough Eagleville squad, 13-2, in district tournament play.
The Tigers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Eagleville. The Eagles scored 3 in the first, 5 in the second, 3 in the third and 2 in the fourth, while holding the Tigers off the board.
Jacob Thomas was on the hill for Fayetteville. The pitcher went two innings, allowing eight runs on six hits. Jonathan Cannon threw two innings out of the bullpen.
Cannon led Fayetteville with two hits in two at bats. Locker had a double.
District tournament play continues this week.
