Fayetteville High School’s Tigers got a big district win over visiting Cornersville Friday night, outpacing the Bulldogs for the 61-45 win.
The Tigers got a lightning fast start in the game, up 17-4 by the end of the first quarter and 32-17 at halftime. FHS continued adding points to the board in the third, outscoring the Bulldogs 11-9 in the frame en route to the 61-45 win.
The Tigers poured in 7 3’s in the game and were nearly perfect at the foul line, hitting 12 of 13 on the night.
Earlier in the week, the Tigers took on a tough Moore County team, falling 53-30.
Moore County jumped out to an early 18-7 lead in the first quarter and was up 36-13 by halftime. At the end of three quarters, the Raiders had a comfortable 44-20 lead before taking the 53-30 win.
On Thursday in a boys’ only match-up, FHS hosted a formidable Madison Academy team from across the state line.
The teams stayed close throughout the first half, with the Tigers up 12-10 after the first quarter and down by only 2 at intermission, 26-28; however, Madison Academy came up with a big third period, pouring in 17 points to the Tigers’ 5 to take the lead, 45-31, heading into the final frame.
The scoring was nearly even in the final period, with Madison Academy scoring 10 and the Tigers 11; however, FHS couldn’t recover from the visitors’ big third period and took the loss by a final score of 42-55.
