Fayetteville High School’s Tigers improved to 7-2 on the season, beating the Tigers from Whitwell 46-8 on the road Friday night.
FHS jumped out to a fast start and never let up, outscoring the hosts 38-0 before the “mercy rule” and a running clock kicked in. Coach Kenny Morson was able to play some of his younger Tigers in the second half.
KJ Jackson got FHS on the board in the first quarter with a 27-yard run. Isaiah Thomison added the extra point kick to give the Fayetteville Tigers a 7-0 lead.
Special teams gave FHS more points when Thomison returned a blocked punt for a TD and a 13-0 lead. His extra point attempt failed.
Fayetteville added another score in the first quarter, a 43-yard pass from Sam Holdmeyer to Corian Cash. The two-point conversion failed, giving FHS a 19-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
Aljarea Johnson’s 8-yard run before the half increased the FHS lead to 25-0. Thomison’s extra point attempt was no good.
In the third quarter, KJ Jackson found paydirt again, scoring on a 30-yard run. Thomison added a successful extra point kick, bringing the score to 32-0.
Johnson found another way to score in the quarter, hauling in a 38-yard pass from Holdmeyer to give the FHS Tigers a 38-0 lead. The extra point attempt failed.
With the mercy rule in place and the clock running, FHS added another score in the fourth quarter, another Johnson run, this time from 20 yards out. Cash added a successful two-point conversion run to give Fayetteville’s Tigers the 46-0 lead.
Whitwell was able to get on the board late in the game on a 3-yard run and successful two-point conversion, leaving the final score at 46-8.
