Tigers get wins over Bulldogs

Fayetteville High School’s Josh Thomas had a big night at the plate Tuesday, hitting 2 singles and a grand slam homerun in action against the visiting Cornersville Bulldogs. The Tigers took the win, 10-5.


Fayetteville High School’s Tiger baseball team improved its record to 13-5-1 with wins last week over Cornersville and a victory over the Huntsville Falcons.

Four runs batted in from Sam Holdmeyer helped lead the Tigers past Cornersville 20-1 on Monday. Holdmeyer drove in runs on a grand slam in the first.

FHS put up 7 runs in the first inning, 7 in the second, 5 in the third and 1 more in the fourth. The Tigers totaled 18 hits on the night.

Cam Sheridan, Zayshon Pullen, Josh Thomas, Jonathan Cannon, Jacob Thomas, GW Davis and Holdmeyer all managed multiple hits for Fayetteville. Sheridan went 3-for-5 at the plate to lead the Tigers.

FHS was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error.

Charlie Burk pitched the Tigers to victory, going four innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out five and walking one.

On the following night, the Tigers hosted Cornersville and got another win, 10-5, over the Bulldogs.

The Tigers started out strong, notching 4 runs in the first and adding 5 runs in the second fueled by a grand slam homerun by Josh Thomas. The final run came in the fifth.

On the mound, Jacob Thomas allowed 10 hits and three runs over six innings, striking out five and walking zero.

On Friday, the Tigers played in the Walking Horse Classic, taking on the Huntsville Falcons and getting the 7-0 win.

Against Huntsville, Jonathan Cannon got the shutout win, allowing only three hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out 10 and walking zero. Charlie Burk threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Josh Thomas led Fayetteville to victory by driving in four runs. Thomas went 3-for-3 at the plate, driving in runs on a double in the first, a single in the third and a single in the sixth.

The Tigers tallied 11 hits. Thomas, Zayshon Pullen and Andy Locker all had multiple hits.

FHS didn’t commit a single error in the field.

The Tigers were scheduled to be on the road at Cascade Monday night before hosting the Champions on Tuesday. They host Hampshire on Saturday at 11 a.m.
