Fayetteville High School’s Tigers secured a big win Friday night over district rival Huntland, defeating the Hornets 20-14 on the road.

After a scoreless first period, Huntland drew first blood, scoring on a 1-yard run and successful extra point, making the score 7-0 in the second quarter.

Fayetteville’s Tigers answered in the same quarter, with Graham Pace taking it in from 8 yards out and tacking on a successful 2-point conversion run to give the Tigers an 8-7 lead at halftime.

The Tigers came out quick after the break with Isaiah Thomison scoring on a 76-yard kickoff return. The kick was no good, leaving the score at 14-7 in favor of the Tigers.

In the fourth quarter, Graham Pace added another score, a 9-yard run. The extra point attempt was unsuccessful, giving the Tigers a 20-7 lead.

The Hornets didn’t give up though, adding a 3-yard TD pass and successful extra point to narrow the Tigers’ lead to 20-14. In the end, it wasn’t enough, and the Tigers left the field with their first district win of the season.
