Riverside Christian Academy’s’ varsity football team opened the season on Friday night with a big win over the Lighthouse Christian School Lions. The Knights defeated the Lions 48-6 on senior night.
“It’s always great to get a win in your opener; It’s even better when it’s at home and on senior night. We were blessed with good health and look forward to an even better week of practice,” said Head Coach, Travis Creasy.
On the offensive side of the ball, quarterback Jake Rubelsky completed five passes for 85 yards; he connected with Crutcher Ezell on two passes for touchdowns. Isaiah Lendley and Michael Whiddon each had one catch for 15 yards and Dylan Lafalir had a catch for three yards.
The Knights had most of their offensive success in the run game. Crutcher Ezell led the Knights in rushing with 17 carries for 197 yards and three touchdowns. Jake Rubelsky had eight carries for 119 yards and one touchdown and Will O’Neal had one carry for a six-yard touchdown.
Jake Rubelsky, Crutcher Ezell, and Dylan LaFlair each scored on two-point conversion attempts.
“Obviously we had a strong run game. I was pleased that several players were able to get involved. We will need to work on our pass game to have future success,” said Coach Creasy.
On the defensive side of the ball, Dylan LaFlair led the Knight in tackles with 12 total tackles and five tackles for loss, and a sack.. Will O’Neal and Michael Whiddon contributed 12 total tackles each and a tackle for loss, and Crutcher Ezell had three total tackles and a tackle for loss. Freshman Luke Atchley caused one fumble and Michael Whiddon recovered a fumble.
“Defense was a team tackling effort. Every person that played a defensive snap, registered a stat of some sort. After watching the film, most tackles were group tackles,” said Coach Creasy. “We’ve got a lot of work to do to prepare ourselves for Lancaster Christian’s pass-heavy offense. They pose a completely different challenge.”
The Knight will kick-off against Lancaster Christian Academy on Friday night at Knight Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
