The Lincoln County Trap Team brought home awards, including an individual national championship title, from the 2019 Academics, Integrity and Marksmanship (AIM) Youth Trapshooting National Championship held July 27-30 at the World Shooting & Recreational Complex in Sparta, Ill.

Over 1,600 shooters from around the nation competed in the trapshooting events. The Lincoln County Team fielded two squads this year. The Junior Gold squad placed seventh, and the Sub-Junior squad placed sixth in their respective categories.

The biggest win for Lincoln County was an individual performance by Alex Tanner, who won the title of 2019 AIM National Champion for the Handicaps (long range) event, which had 905 competitors. Tanner shot a perfect 100 out of 100 and won the shootoff against the only other 100 in the event. With this score and excellent shooting in the singles and doubles event, Tanner also won the Junior Gold Class B High All-Around Champion.

Wyatt Stewart and Michael Sisk also received recognition as members of the 2019 National AIM All-Star Team.

Several of the team members celebrated personal best score during singles, handicaps and doubles competitions. Justin Ellis shot his first “25 straight” during the last day of the singles competition.

Any youth (boy or girl) who would like to try trap shooting next season should call Coach Mark Horton at (931) 703-3478 or Coach Kevin Tanner at (931) 993-8868 by Sept. 1. No previous trapshooting experience is required. The team is currently building a new, local practice field.

AIM, which stands for “Academics, Integrity and Marksmanship,” is the official youth program of the American Trapshooting Association.
