The road to the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association’s Basketball State Championship gets underway Saturday at Fayetteville Middle School.
FMS will host the first round of action for the Southeast Division Qualifying Tournament. Play gets underway Jan. 12 with eight games played the first day starting at 9 a.m. Four semi-final games will be played Jan. 14 getting underway at 4 p.m. On Jan. 16, consolation games (for seeding) gets underway at 4 p.m. with the championships starting at 7 p.m.
The top four teams will advance to the second round to be played in Lawrence County. Lincoln County will host the sectionals (sub-state) with the winners advancing to the state championship to be played in Murfreesboro Feb. 8-9.
Going into the tournament, the girls’ seeding is as follows: Huntland, 1; South Lincoln, 2; Fayetteville, 3; Unity, 4; Flintville, 5; Highland Rim, 6; Liberty, 7; and Blanche is the 8 seed.
The boys’ seeding is as follows: Fayetteville, 1; South Lincoln, 2; Huntland, 3; Highland Rim, 4; Liberty, 5; Flintville, 6; Unity, 7; Blanche is the 8 seed.
The following is the schedule for the opening day: Girls, Huntland vs. Blanche, 9 a.m.; Boys, Fayetteville vs. Blanche, 10:30 a.m.; Girls, Unity vs. Flintville, 12 p.m.; Boys, Highland Rim vs. Liberty, 1:30 p.m.; Girls, South Lincoln vs. Liberty, 3 p.m.; South Lincoln vs. Unity, 4:30 p.m.; Girls, Fayetteville vs. Highland Rim, 6 p.m.; Boys, Huntland vs. Flintville, 7:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 per day. Please use parking in front of Fayetteville High School. The entrance to the gym is on the back side of FMS. Use the breezeway between FHS and FMS to get to gym’s entrance.
