The Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association (TMSAA) has established a state middle school basketball tournament for the 2018-2019 season.

The move sent middle school programs scrambling to get their regular season games and tournaments completed before the first of the year. The local middle school county tournament, usually completed in January, is now scheduled for Dec. 13, 14 and 15. It will again be played at Lincoln County High School.

The road to the state tournament will get underway on Jan. 10 with area and sectional games played at Fayetteville and Lincoln County high schools. The championship gets underway in Murfreesboro Feb. 8-9.

On the state level, middle schools are divided into three classifications based on enrollment, A, AA and AAA. All local middle schools are classified into single A. The state is broken down into four sections and 22 areas.

Schools in Fayetteville and Lincoln County are part of Section 3, Area 12, made up of Blanche, Fayetteville Middle School, Flintville, Highland Rim, Huntland, Monteagle, Moore County, South Lincoln and Unity.

Fayetteville High School will be the host floor for the first round of the southeast division (made up of the nine teams above) getting underway Jan. 10 and must be completed by Jan. 17.

The top four finishers from the division will advance to the southern area to be played at South Lawrence School. It will be made up of eight teams getting underway Jan. 19 and must be completed by Jan. 24.

The third round, the Middle Tennessee sectionals, will be played at Lincoln County High School with eight teams getting underway Jan. 26 and must be completed by Feb. 2.

The four winners from the sectionals will advance to the state tournament to be played at three locations in Murfreesboro, at Stewarts Creek High School, Stewarts Creek Middle School and Blackman Middle School.
