The Sportsman’s Day and Dinner at Harmony Hill Church of God will be held Saturday, Aug. 24.
Harmony Hill’s Sportsman’s Dinner will feature world-renowned hunter, author and outdoorsman, J. Wayne Fears. Come hear his presentation, “Adventure is My Business.”
Fears, who has hunted with Fred Bear, Howard Hill and Jack O’Connor, just to name a few, became an explorer and freelance writer by chance and necessity. You will be fascinated by his global adventures. They include being abandoned and left for dead in the Cassiar Mountains of Canada, being charged by a grizzly, living in -40°F weather, nearly hitting a whale with a bush plane and other incredible experiences.
Be prepared to be wowed by this presentation. These tales were the basis for his prolific career as an outdoor writer of 33 books and 6,200 magazine articles. He is the author of the Lodge Book of Dutch Oven Cooking, the current Boy Scout Survival Manual and the Air Force Survival Manual. Most of his books are on hunting or survival, but he has also written some historical books. He wrote a book, “Isaac”, about a fictional young boy who fought at the Battle of King’s Mountain. All the events are accurate, and the book is required reading any many of the Carolina schools.
