The Middle Tennessee Crappie Club (MTCC) kicked off its 2019 season with a tournament March 23rd at Woods Reservoir with 13 boats coming out to fish.
It was a cool start early, but the temperatures warmed up rather quickly as it turned into a fantastic day to be out on the water. Out of the 13 boats fishing, 11 had at least some fish at the weigh-in and seven of the 13 boats had tournament limits, seven fish per boat.
Terry and Tyler Spray, both of Lincoln County, won the tournament with a really nice stringer of seven fish, weighing in at 11.45 pounds. Yes, that was correct, 11.45 pounds in seven crappie. They also caught the biggest fish of the tournament, which was a white crappie weighing in at 2.32 pounds. They reported catching their fish in an area most tried but could not find success, but these guys got their technique down and are good at what they do.
Taking second place was Toby Ivey, also from Lincoln County, who fished alone. He weighed in a real nice seven-fish limit, weighing in at 9.36 pounds.
Coming in third place was the team of Randy Clark and Delbert Hayes, both from the Manchester area in Coffee County. They had a seven-fish limit of fish, weighing in at 7.80 pounds.
“Congrats to all these teams for placing at the tournament on Saturday and getting the 2019 season kicked off with some nice fish,” said Ivey.
MTCC will be fishing at Tim’s Ford on April 20 for the next tourney of the 2019 season.
“Come fish with us if you can,” Ivey added. “We are just getting started with our 2019 season. For more information, contact us our website is middletennesseecrappieclub.com or call an officer, numbers are listed on our website.”
